July 9

The owner of the motel gave me a ride back to the trail this morning after I ate breakfast.  I did a resupply while I was here in town, washed some clothes in the my bathroom sink, and repaired my hiking shoes which were starting to come apart yet again.  This is already my 3rd pair of shoes and I'm hoping they can survive another 300 miles.  The sharp and jagged rocks of the White Mountains are hard on everyone's boots no matter the brand.

After hiking 11.8 miles I'm staying at Gentian Pond Shelter.  I'll stay in the shelter if the temperature drops so the mosquitoes won't be up and about, otherwise I will set up my tent.  The shelter has a great view of the distant mountains and there's a pond next to it with its overflow water cascading down the hill side....really nice.  The pond has several beavers in it that I was able to get a few pictures of.

Tomorrow is a big day in that I will be entering Maine the final state of my northbound AT journey.
