July 7 / 8

Since the bunkhouse had many empty bunks last night I was able to get one instead of sleeping on the floor.  I left at 8:15 for my short but strenuous 7.8 mile hike to Pinkham Notch located on highway NH 16.  I arrived at the Notch at 1 pm.  My hike took me up and over Mt. Madison at 5633 ft. and then slowly went down hill to the highway.  I have now finished the Presidential Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. 👌  The White Mountains rank with the best scenery and views of my journey thus far.  They were also some of the most strenuous to hike.

While I was hanging out at Pinkham Notch in the hikers room a vacationing couple from Florida offered to give me a ride up the highway to nearby Gorham, New Hampshire where I checked in at the Hikers Paradise motel and got my own room for the night.  Heavy rain again is forecast for tomorrow.  I'll take a zero if that's the case.  Besides I need to give my feet and legs a chance to recover from all of the rock scrambling I've done these last few days.

7 / 8   It's raining this morning ........so I'll sit this out.  I'm only about 20 trail miles from entering Maine.
