The rain continued throughout the night. I woke up at 5:30 and I started to pack up my gear within the tent. The tent rainfly held up fine. No leaks what so ever. There were two other section hikers here last night who came in late. They left by 6:00 with it still sprinkling.
I ended up leaving at 6:45 in the fog and mist. I hiked quickly because it was, for the most part, down hill. I reached the next shelter, Matts Creek by 8:45 having hiked about 6 miles. Sparkles was there and he hiked with me to US 501 where we hitched a ride into Glasgow, Virginia for a resupply. On the way we crossed the James River via the longest foot-use-only bridge on the AT. The rain had stopped by 11:30 but it's still cloudy and rain is expected tonight.
In Glasgow now and staying at a Boy Scouts built shelter which is free to thru hikers. It has an outdoor shower facility. It's a nice place with a fire ring, picnic table and precut fire wood provided. We both went to the nearby Dollar General for our food resupply and ate a hamburger at a close by restaurant. Tomorrow morning we'll hitch a ride back to the trail and continue north.
5 / 2 Back on the AT by 9:30. Great weather so far this morning. I'm at mile 806.4 near US 60. Today I crossed the 800 mile mark on the AT ✌.....
