I'm going to do a slack pack today. I'll catch a bus to Dalton and then start hiking north to Williamstown a 23.5 mile hike. This should be very doable. The AT route passes Mt Greylock the highest peak in Massachusetts at 3491 ft.
So I finished my hike at about 5 pm and it was a wet, soggy trail the whole way with off and on rain. I'm glad all I had in my backpack was water and some snacks, about 10 lbs total. I stopped at the Mark Noepel shelter for a break and signed the logbook. When I reached the top of Mt Greylock I couldn't see much because of the fog and mist. The forest I hiked through was very dense and lush, looked like a tropical rain forest. So I'm back in my hotel room now eating and resting. I hope the weather improves tomorrow.
