You know what the thru hikers say about the Appalachian Trail ? They say the trail has no memory. I know I've only come but halfway but I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only an AT thru hiker can feel. A thru hiker on a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it to Maine and climb to the top of Mount Katahdin. I hope to see my fellow thru hikers there and shake their hands. I hope Mount Katahdin is as beautiful as it has been in my dreams. I hope.......
I wonder if this man can help with my will, my desire, my strength, and my hope to complete my quest. For it was Lincoln who united the south and north. Without him and the sacrifice of thousands, we would today have no Appalachian Trail to walk and marvel at.
Yes I took a side excursion to Washington, DC since I was so close. I'm staying at the International Hostel just a few blocks away from the White House and national mall. I'll stay here for a few days then catch the train back to Harper's Ferry and take on the second half of my great adventure.
