Up early and left my campsite at 5:45. I started hiking down to US 302 about 9.5 miles away. The hike down was really beautiful with all of the spruce and fir trees and the Christmas - like aroma they give off. It's nice to be hiking in a boreal zone where conifers dominate the mountain slopes. This is such a thickly wooded forest. I reached the highway by 10 am and caught a ride up to the Appalachian Mountain Club Highland Center where I registered for a bunk in their bunkhouse. Ate lunch and just finished taking a shower and washing some clothes. Tomorrow I'll continue hiking into the so-called Presidential Range of the White Mountains where I will summit Mt Washington the highest peak in the northeast.
